The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and the Slovak Republic were established in 1993 but the contacts between Slovenia and Slovakia or between Slovenians and Slovaks have existed previously and have been more or less intensive in various times. The year 2004 was important for both countries, as it was the year they both joined the European Union. This had further intensified the cooperation between the countries in all areas and is currently on a very good level.
The bilateral relations are friendly and dynamic. High representatives of the countries meet often both within international organisations (EU, NATO, OSCE …) as well as on a bilateral level. The countries have no open issues.
